Endangered Species

Anniversary   I think of you so often,     striding among the stars...   and feel so grateful     for all the years we shared.   Do you know that I’ve grown old—    and the world increasingly crazy ?   If you suddenly returned to visit,    you might not recognize me or it.   But you’d be so proud of our family,    tender offshoots now so strong and sturdy.   Your legacy endures like ripples in a pond    when a stone drops out of sight.   Do you know I still turn to you in the night     when anything seems possible?   There are things I long to tell you,    your responses I yearn to hear.   Sometimes I sense your nearness    but mostly you are far away...   Busy doing whatever one does    when one is no longer here and now.   So, I want to say to my dear ones,  ...

  Dog Days   Don’t spend all your time being dismayed by the world my little dog says to me.   We could be playing fetch or going for a walk or meditating while I nap on your lap.   There are lovely smells to explore the breeze waiting to ruffle your hair and exciting things hiding in the grass.   So, I go out into the morning and don’t think a single bad thought or worry about things all day long.   My little dog has more wisdom than anyone I ever knew or any book I’ve ever read.   It’s no coincidence that  dog is “god” spelled backwards.   God spoke to me today and for a change, I listened.
