Dog Days

Dog Days

Don’t spend all your time

being dismayed by the world

my little dog says to me.

We could be playing fetch

or going for a walk

or meditating while I nap on your lap.

There are lovely smells to explore

the breeze waiting to ruffle your hair

and exciting things hiding in the grass.

So, I go out into the morning

and don’t think a single bad thought

or worry about things all day long.

My little dog has more wisdom

than anyone I ever knew

or any book I’ve ever read.

It’s no coincidence that

dog is “god” spelled backwards.

God spoke to me today

and for a change, I listened.
