Benefit

A benefit there is

to growing older

   to offset thinning hair—

   and thinning mind.

There come moments

of utter clarity

   when understanding opens

   gratitude bubbles

One knows at last what

eluded and mystified

   The only thing that matters

   is that one loves—

One tries to love, anyway,

both the beauty and the pain,

   and one notices the music

   the delicate grace notes— 

of the master composer

creating, always creating

   more beauty, more majesty

   making even from

humble things

like snowflakes

   grains of sand

   you and me—

   great works of art.
